Our People: Joel Morin
Mr. Joel Morin is a distinguished aviation expert with almost five decades of experience in air traffic management, aviation policy, airspace optimization, and international regulatory affairs. He is the Founder of Joel Morin & Associates Aviation Consulting, based in Montreal, Canada, and serves as a Global Training Faculty Member for Airports Council International (ACI World).
Mr. Morin has greatly impacted air navigation and airport strategies both in Canada and around the world. He has held influential positions at Transport Canada, NAV CANADA, and IATA, where he led efforts on ATM Harmonization and Global Policy. His contributions include work on global ATM research and development, Air Traffic Flow Management, and modernization programs such as CAATS, NextGen, and SESAR to enhance airspace management efficiency.
From 2012 to 2017, Mr. Morin represented the airline industry at ICAO, helping to develop global standards and guidance in areas such as the Global Air Navigation Plan (GANP), Aviation System Block Upgrades (ASBUs), Performance-Based Navigation (PBN), Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM), civil-military coordination, as well as participating in several Task Forces and other initiatives.
As a former Air Traffic Controller at the Montreal Area Control Centre, Headquarters Superintendent within Transport Canada and finishing his ATM career as Operations Manager at the Edmonton Area Control Centre, Mr. Morin was directly involved in Canada’s transition to privatized air navigation services and helped build NAV CANADA into a global benchmark ANSP.
Mr. Morin is a recipient of the Transport Canada Deputy Minister’s Award of Excellence, the NAV Canada Chairman’s Award for Employee Excellence, and several other international awards and commendations.
